Chicken Breeding: The Making of a Winning Line
![]() |
Red King line |
In 1956 Ted Mclean decided to quit cocking, why? Because he was losing
more in his Mclean Hatches than winning, he put all his chicken to axe. Luckily
before that happened he was able to channel some of his chicken to his friend
Marion Rose and developed this breed or re- invented this breed to become a better version of
the Mclean Hatches. Often times patience and creativity can transform a losing line
to become a winning line, and that holds true until today. But the decision to
make your own winning line versus to buy an already winning line is an economic
or perhaps a personal question to each one of us, money, time, patience and the
level of competition makes a cocker to search for more.

Do You Believe in Winning Line of a Chicken?

Cockers have different opinion regarding this matter. Other believed that the bloodline of a chicken is important because it could determine if the chicken is a good or low quality. That’s why we always hear that we need to buy chicken from respected breeders if we want to be successful with our breeding. We should look for a winning line or strong chicken. We should not rely only with the looks, but also with its potential to win in a derby. To know this, check the background of their parents and siblings. If it has a good record during their fights, it is a good bloodline. But if not, it is a losing line?

Cockfighting is not just a sport, but it has also a connection to our everyday lives. It has an impact to our personalities on how we deal to other people. Or on how we look to our experiences and to the circumstances in our surroundings. As a cocker, we already shaped by the characters that we learned with our circles. And we apply it on how we treat our co-worker, family, friends and even neighbors. Of course, that characters are really well contrary to the belief of other people saying that we are just a bunch of gamblers and we glorify violence.

Who Introduced You in Cockfighting?

Do you still remember how you got started in cockfighting. Who was the person who introduced you in this one of a kind of sport? For sure, many of us were exposed in chicken when we were still at a young age. During that time, we already understood that this was a great hobby. We really entertained with the chicken fighting until we learned how to raise chickens. Maybe you’re also playing the chickens by putting a wire a wire to their legs; it served as a gaff. But I heard stories that at first they hated chicken and kicking it. They can’t explain why they became a cocker. Is this the more you hate, the more you love relationship? Just kidding.
Cockfighting for a Cause

Cockfighter is one of the generous people in the world. It is not true that we are selfish because our only aim in life is to enjoy. But in reality, we are not only looking ourselves. There are times that we are also thing about the condition of other people especially the needy ones. We are not a charity and religious organization, but we could still help through our efforts.
